Abstract:
This book is the result of daring ethnographic research on a topic full of contrasts and contradictions. The research work of Eleana Paola Catacora Salas offers us a unique vision of the various layers of meaning of justice, allowing us to understand the intrinsic values of Community Justice practiced by the peasant patrols of the Peruvian Andes. The reader is thus invited to delve into the social universe of the Quechuas of the department of Puno and, specifically, into their notions and practices of justice. Through the pages of this book, the author urges us to think, analyze and understand with her the internal organization of the peasant patrols and how they experience the fluidity of everyday life, with its demands, discrepancies, hopes and conflicts. Reading it forces us to avoid two great vices of thought: abstract generalizations and simplistic relativisms. Essential work for those who seek to know the cultural background on which the forms of political interaction and the mechanisms of justice that exist in the towns of the Peruvian Andes have been operating with strength and vitality.
