Abstract:
Social belonging and organization processes among Arab forced migrants: Theoretical-methodological contributions, published in Portuguese, is based on Schiocchet’s “Habilitation” thesis (Venia Docendi). The ethnographic data was collected over 15 years, between 2005 and 2020. However, the book itself focuses on the theoretical-methodological developments of Schiocchet’s long-term research between 2010 and 2020. These developments contribute to various subfields of social anthropology. The main topics discussed are: anthropological comparison; intersectionality; suspicion and trust; anthropology of refugee camps; refugee regimes, humanitarianism and tutelage; refugee crisis in Europe; and integration and encounter. Ethnographically, the book contributes to the empirical study of diverse groups of Arab forced migrants, like Syrians and Iraqis, with a strong emphasis on Palestinians in contexts as diverse as Lebanon, Palestine, Brazil, Denmark and Austria.
