    Abstract:

This edited collection focuses on the political dynamics of race, class, and nationalism in the contemporary Caribbean. Authored by a new generation of Caribbeanist anthropologists and scholars in the humanities and social sciences, collectively the chapters help to trace these processes through the contours of a broader political, economic, social and cultural geography. As the collection shows, notions of racial identity have changed over time, but this series of reformations is not independent of class rule or nationalism. The authors examine these dynamics through the lens of several case studies focused on the development of political organisations, hardships, and ideology. They take the radical debate forward to concentrate on what is essentially the struggle for liberation against elite enrichment.
