Abstract:
One can learn from traditional healers and their perspective. This Lekgotla would meet with traditional healers--either individually or with a traditional healers group to hear their thoughts on such issues as what is a "true traditional healer" and to learn about issues that are important to traditional healers. The discussion is to learn more about traditional healers from their perspective (e.g. what traditional healers can treat, their training, and thoughts/ nature of collaborating with biomedical practitioners). Sitting with traditional groups at their location(s) is to help promote discussion with traditional healers. This discussion can facilitate increased understanding of traditional healers and potential collaboration between traditional healers and biomedical practitioners. If traditional healers are collaborating with biomedical personnel, then possibly involving a biomedical practitioner that is trusted by the traditional healers in the Lekgotla. Only involve a biomedical practitioner if it will not not inhibit response of traditional practitioners. This discussion can facilitate increased understanding of traditional healers and potential collaboration between traditional healers and biomedical practitioners.
