Abstract:
Peace becomes the most desirable human value during turbulence, relentless conflict, and growing anxiety. Peace does not mean only the ‘absence of war’ but also a state of justice that stands for harmony and the sustainability of the environment. Although over-consumption is dangerous for entire species, where humans, animals, and plants are the worst sufferers, we can examine it very well with the typical example of endangered and extinct species. The ratio is 0.01 to 0.1 % on data, although many are left unknown. The extinction of the Dodo bird by late 1700 is a well-known example of human-induced extinction. Consumerism can be classified as a set of social and economic theories that tend to come with over-consumption and hamper the sustainability of the environment. Over-consumption is entangled with the degradation of health, environment, and social ambiguity as these create huge differences among societies, divide society, and degrade natural resources. I primarily utilize field data obtained through participant observation, interviews, structured questionnaires, and relevant literature in this research. The findings show that in Jharkhand, many indigenous tribes are dependent on their forest resources. Even now, these people consume their forest produce and earn by selling these resources for food or trade. Furthermore, the tribals have their own healthcare systems and use plants as medicine. When they are impacted by climate change, forest products become scarce, the quality of the flora and fauna becomes less and less, and the price falls. The changing attitudes of the decision makers on market prices and the impact on social networks will need to be considered to determine how to fix this socio-economic problem. This paper will explore the conceptual relationship between consumerism, environment, and sustainability. It would also look into the contemporary challenges in establishing a peaceful global order. Critical analysis would be used as a method for discussion and analysis.
