Abstract:
In the present scenario, students face high stress in an academic environment. There has been a rapid increase in stress in academics during the last one and a half decades. However, limited research has focused on the assessment of stress. Hence, this study aims to understand and assess the academic stress. The current research is based on extensive fieldwork and cross-sectional study. the data were gathered from students studying in classes 11th and 12th in a National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) institutional campus of Shaktinagar, Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, India. A total of 201 students participated in the study out of which 105 were boys and 96 were girls who belonged between the age of 15-18 years and were randomly selected from the school premises after obtaining permission from the school Principals. General information like age, sex, family type, educational status, etc were collected through an interview schedule, and the Academic Stress Scale was used to examine the Academic Stress among the students. The analysis employed descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The study revealed that these students who were 17 years of age were highly affected by academic-related personal feelings of stress i.e. 45.37%.
The finding aims to guide individual students, lecturers, career and counseling centers, and school administrators in implementing stress mitigation strategies. Additionally, it also stimulates scholarly discourse on student academic stress in Senior Secondary education. We propose that future researchers consider triangulation methods. Limitations include sample size and geographical scope.
