This study aims to examine the impact of dating apps on gay men living in the countryside of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The specialized literature highlights the emergence of a phenomenon called "emotional capitalism" (Illouz, 2011), which influences affective practices mediated by digital media. Through field research, I intend to investigate how affective configurations and masculinities, which are influenced by global, regional and local contexts, result in new forms of use and personal exposure in these technologies. Dating apps have become a significant part of contemporary life, especially for LGBTQIAPN+ individuals, offering a digital space to explore identities and connections. However, the use of these platforms can be influenced by a number of factors, including local cultural norms, gender expectations and region-specific social dynamics. In the specific context of Santa Catarina, within a region known for its distinct cultural characteristics and demographic diversity, it is crucial to investigate how these influences manifest themselves in gay men's interaction with dating apps. Through interviews, observations and data analysis, I intend to examine the lived experiences of these men, identifying patterns of behavior, challenges faced and adaptation strategies. By gaining a better understanding of how dating apps are used and interpreted by gay men in the interior of Santa Catarina, we can not only broaden our knowledge of the complexities of affective relationships mediated by digital media, but also contribute to the development of policies and practices that are more inclusive and sensitive to diversity.
