Abstract:
The area confining to Narwar-Tikoda-Damdongri in district-Raisen is subjected to investigation since seventies. However, a systematic geo-archaeological investigation of Acheulian culture has been carried out in recent years.
As part of the present study attempt has been made to understand the acheulian lithic surface scatters in Tikoda Locality -I. Almost 99.5% acheulian sites are on surface and such sites are getting exposed in recent years due to soil erosion and various other human activities. It is usually believed that artefacts on surface are disturbed, hence hominin behaviour can not be determined except a general assessment of assemblage configuration. In the present study methodology has been developed that includes landscape demarcation, site plan preparation, plotting of artefacts along with typological studies, weathering pattern, abrasion and spatial patterning etc. to collect the data meticulously with a view to retrieve the information on hominin behaviour as for as possible from the surface scatter.
