Abstract:

The current young generation is excited about making reels. Reels are captivating and engaging video clips for up to 60 seconds that can edit, sound dub, and add effects, allowing individuals to artistically convey their narrative, educate viewers, and even gain recognition from those who appreciate their skills. Following the emergence of COVID-19, reels have gained immense popularity, particularly among young women, who have unearthed their latent potential for creating reels, utilising this medium as an alternate means for personal growth and intellectual advancement. The reels have given women an opportunity to showcase their talent before the general public. Besides, reel-making activities prove stress-bustering; they also act as distractions, adding some excitement and variety to the humdrum daily routine of women's lives. They become so engrossed in creating their reels to attract public attention that they neglect their familial responsibilities. Due to their desperation to garner attention on social media platforms through reel-making, these young mothers are not as concerned about their children as they should be. Some women, battling with frustration in life, are trying to escape from it by exhibiting what they think is something unique in themselves to society at large through reel-making activities. However, it's possible that this could exacerbate their frustration as they become addicted to the number of 'likes' and followers they garner. If they keep it within reasonable limits, it is good. But, in most cases, they cross the limits, and then they can hardly take a break from such attention-grabbing exercises. Using primary and secondary sources, the research aims to explore the talent exhibited by young women in Belagavi City (India) through their reels and its impact on their family responsibilities.
