Abstract:
Writing is a complex activity that requires discursive practices and a set of knowledge and skills to convey ideas, knowledge, and experiences through written text. It is used in academic settings or spaces such as universities, educational and training institutes at the university level, scientific journals, publishing houses, among others. Academic writing presents arguments supported by sources and experts on the subject, making it precise and objective, meaning it does not contain subjective comments, opinions, or judgments from the writer.
In the case of academic journals, they have mandatory guidelines and directives for submitting and publishing an article, which include the use of academic writing. Inclusive language enters the academic debate through writing. Some universities, academic journals, public and private institutions, and governmental organizations, standardized by language-regulating institutions, analyze and reflect on the use of inclusive language. They have even proposed manuals, guides, and norms for its implementation, affecting this standardization. However, others oppose its use. Therefore, the aim of the presentation is to highlight the challenges and opportunities that journals face when accepting articles that use inclusive language, through the opinions of those responsible for directing and editing scientific journals.
