Abstract:

Geertz's research "The Souk of Sefrou" aims, within the framework of hermeneutic anthropology, to break with the ideological judgements and perceptions formed by colonial sociology about Moroccan society, to criticise Gellner's segmentary theory. Its value resides in demonstrating the value of the semantic systems of religious symbols and actions, especially in unifying perceptions and attitudes, in order to interpret them and to understand meanings and realities. For Geertz, it is culture that gives meaning to the world. Eckelman's "Knowledge and Power in Morocco" is a critical study of the ways in which ideas of religious knowledge and rooted culture, influenced in historical context. He concludes that the responsibility of the savant was primarily the acquisition of religious knowledge. However, it became a mechanism for legitimising power and domination. The interpretation enabled him to shatter all his previous assumptions about the static nature of Islamic learning. Society cannot be placed in an icebox because its main characteristic is change, not stability. Rodinson in "Islam and Capitalism" criticises Weber, who believed that what distinguishes the European mentality is the rationality, he sees in it only the minimal factors that hinder capitalist, such as the magical direction of thinking, personal will, and doctrinal. He confirms that if he was right, and capitalism has not developed in the Islamic world because the prevailing ideology in it contradicts with rationality, the reason for all factors that meet to form the basis of that ideology. Our study based on the descriptive and deductive method, the qualitative approach, and methodological instruments to collect data through direct observation, social biography, and interview, starting from the question: What are the profiles of the commercial actors who control the activities and relationships?
