Abstract:
Art can become an ingredient in the anthropological discourse, and this statement is based on three projects that I developed. The first project studies the collective memories of people that live in Craiova - a city in Romania and the reflections on old urban architecture. Methodologically, I used social biographies and content analyses in order to collect social representations of the city, and I added to this study my own aesthetic representations of the old aristocratic buildings of the old city. The second project analyses the old traditional Romanian incantations, I analyzed the old language expressions, typologies of old Romanian incantations, symbolical imagination elements etc. and I added to the project a few paintings representing plants that are used in traditional rituals. And the third project is a multimedia book that collects stories about travelling in Europe. I added to the stories, sketches made on different sites, on different perspectives, images of old towns I discovered along my travels. All the projects integrate artistic representations, as a self contribution to the symbolical imagination of the projects. Thus, I consider that artistic representations can add a creative self contribution to the anthropological projects that can bridge between the voices of the studied communities and the voice of the researcher.
