In the past few years, the tea industry in India has seen numerous challenges, among them the closure of several tea gardens, which was the most serious crisis. The workers in this situation experience the biggest burden of the consequences, as their well-being, families, and livelihoods are entirely reliant on it. Meanwhile, the formation of cooperative organisations by the tea worker community has effectively revitalised the tea garden and resolved the issue of joblessness. The present study aims to analyse a case of a closed tea plantation industry in the Alipurduar district of West Bengal. The study took place at Bandapani Tea Estate, where the researcher conducted interviews and group discussions with the cooperative organising groups and other functionaries in order to better understand the whole phenomenon. Also, the study tries to provide suggestions for effectively managing such serious situations.
