Abstract:

Ageing and life course can be defined as the ability to maintain and enhance physical health, mental health, independence, and overall quality of life.Healthy ageing is essential to optimise the quality of life of the older people and guarantee a healthy life full of opportunities and fulfilment however, it is seen as a biologically complex and heterogeneous phenomenon, with great variations in life course experiences of individuals physical, social, and psychological functioning domains, as the age increases the loss of functionality in terms of physical health, which makes them more dependent on others. The risk of falls also increases due to poor eye segmental coordination, dynamic balance, and some other extrinsic factors. As a result of falls, physical harms together with the psychological one can be important to note, which cause decline in self-assurance, confidence to move, and self-efficiency. Technology is an important tool to mitigate the risk and increase independence of elderly. It uses sensors and Internet of things as a data source to predict, prevent, and detect falls. Social inclusion through mobile devices and smart home seems to be ideal to avoid that lack of purpose in life, confidence, or value. Smart homes collect and analyse data from household appliances and devices to promote independence, prevent emergencies and increase the quality of life in elderly people. In that regard, the multi-sensor system allows the expert to know more about the elderly people needs to propose actions that improve the elderly people’s quality of life,as they can read and analyse through sensors their facial expressions, voice, among others. Artificial intelligence(AI) and machine learning based ambient assisted living systems helps to assist the aging population in living a healthier and safer life independently. AI is one potential way to enable real-time, cost-effective, and efficient responses to a variety of human security-related issues.
