The study investigated the role of Bakgatla - Baa - Kgafela -Baa- Kgafela communities in the promotion of Mphebatho cultural museum in Moruleng, North West province, South Africa. The study followed the qualitative approach. Data was collected using interviews and focus group discussions. The philosophical framework of the study was new museology and cultural theory. The use of African indigenous languages such as Setswana was used in the study. The data was later transcribed into English. The researcher used thematic analysis. The study is significant for both the community and museum practitioners, policy makers including for educational purposes. Therefore, the findings of the study are as follows:  The research found that there is a lack of interest from the community in the museum and their community initiatives.  It was also found that politics play an enormous role in the stability of the museum. When there is some political unrest from the community and leadership there is no funding to sustain the museum and pay for the employees often resulting them to be volunteers and work with no pay.  Indigenous peoples of Bakgatla - Baa - Kgafela -Baa- Kgafela play a huge role in preserving their artefacts although they trust the museum staff with other factors such as the curating, exhibiting and the promotion side of things.  The community needs to do more and actively participate in the museum activities and needed more educational training in curating, exhibiting and promoting their museum.  The young people are motivated and encouraged to study museum studies so that they can take over the elderly as they are getting old.
