Abstract:

The Indian construction industry is known for its precariousness. Their exists high levels of stress, mental and psychological health disorders. The industry being male dominated hence it becomes all the more difficult for females to function in an efficient manner. The most important issue which the present paper will be discussing are the psychological well-being (PWB) of migrant female construction workers in the Indian state of Jharkhand. The present research work proposes to unveil the joint role of psychological capital and social capital on adaptive performance through resilience for migrant females in the Indian construction industry. The theoretical framework employed by the author is derived from the theories of conservation of resources and planned behavior. The Indian construction sector has been disregarded by both industry and academia when it comes to recognizing the softer parts of work that can improve performance at work and remove the different obstacles that women face on project sites. Fifty female civil engineers, both mid- and senior-level, who work in various government and non-government construction projects in eastern India have provided data. The present research analysis uses a qualitative framework that involves conducting in-depth interviews using a per-determined questionnaire. The creation of the current case study involved thematic analysis. The present work will add to theory building in between the variables of psychological capital, social capital and resilience among migrant females in the Indian construction industry. The research work will act as a platform for knowledge dissemination among various stakeholders.
