This paper will address some features of the identity of Cuban artists who use digital media in their works, considering the role that the distinctive Cuban art tuition had in their current work, the topics they address in their works, and the use of digital media in their artistic creation in the current social context. The role of different instances that promote artistic creation in Cuba, the media, the exhibition of works, and the role of platforms in the context of cultural imperialism of new technologies will be observed. This paper will also address how Cuban artists access and appropriate new media in the context of difficult connectivity and access to technology that prevails in Cuba. Based on the above, this paper seeks to provide some elements to understand more about the changes in the socio-cultural reality on the island and hopes to generate reflections on the intersection of issues such as socially engaged digital art, the question of whether digital art produces and/or reproduces inequalities and forms of exclusion, and the use and appropriation of digital technologies and their impact on artistic work and its contents.
