This presentation, by the retired executive director of the American Anthropological Association, will discuss the ways in which the WCAA have helped AAA seek a place in world anthropologies that seeks to advance the field of anthropology in an inclusive and equitable manner. As the largest national association, AAA has a special responsibility to use its resources to join others to convene, develop standards of professional responsibility, amplify voices, celebrate accomplishments, and boost public awareness about the valuable ways in which anthropological research, teaching, and applications can serve the public interest. The presentation will talk about the AAA’s focus over the past two decades on its publishing program, diversifying its membership, making the organization a more welcoming home for anthropologists working in NGO, government, and business settings. The presentation will also address some of the ways that AAA has collaborated with and supported WCAA over the past two decades, as well as such joint projects as the development of the Open Anthropology Research Repository.
