Yak farming in the Mongun-Taiginsky and Tere-Kholsky kozhuuns of the Republic of Tyva is one of the traditional types of environmental management, as well as traditional type of economy of the Tozhu Tuvans living in this territory. Yak farming is distributed throughout the world in a rather narrow range - this is the highlands of Central Asia and it is practiced by residents of only a dozen countries, including Russia. In Russia, the territories of traditional yak breeding are Buryatia, Altai and Tuva. In Tuvan yak farming, animals are used to produce meat, milk and wool from which you can weave strong ropes that do not rot in contact with moisture and other durable products. Yaks are also used during migrations, especially in in high mountain conditions, as a pack and riding animal. Thus, it is still is a source of food, material for making household items and a means of movement, therefore, it occupies the most important niche in life support local nomads.
