There were limitations on travel. Permission had to be taken to travel from one place to the other. The world’s accepted definition of normalcy collapsed, and a new one emerged. The Covid-19 pandemic brought the world to a standstill. India’s diverse population made the situation worse. The situation was appalling even in the northeastern region of the country, which is devoid of essential communication, transportation, and healthcare facilities. As a result, the community as a whole was largely responsible for assuming the role of combating the pandemic through unique approaches. Their knowledge, perception and behaviour of Covid-19 were closely linked to their involvement, participation and responses. Thus, an attempt is made here to bring out narratives involving the first-hand knowledge, ideas and their cumulative experiences during the entire period that aided them in overcoming the pandemic trauma. A qualitative inquiry was conducted through an unstructured interview during the pandemic in four states of India namely- Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur. The data collected are thematically analysed.
